This was a fun data project I worked on that yielded some really interesting and fun visuals. I was feeling inspired by I book I recently read, Dear Data by Stefanie Posavec and Giorgia Lupi. I read this book in one sitting and by the end all I wanted was to count, categorize and design literally everything. I started with my puppy, Eddy.

My puppy, Eddy, has an obsession with his stuffed chicken toy that we all call the Chicken Nugget. Every night when my family is trying to relax, work or watch TV, he incessantly attempts to get someone, anyone, to throw Nugget for him. He’ll put it at our feet, in our laps, on our faces or he’ll bark and cry whatever it takes to annoy one of us just enough that we’ll throw it for him. He is pretty persistent and it can be entertaining to watch, but it was even more entertaining to count. I started writing down who he brought the toy to, how long they made him wait before throwing it, if he barked, how the person reacted on a scale of enthused to annoyed etc. This poster and book are a reflection of that data, which turned out to be a pretty accurate representation of my dog’s relationships with each individual in the house.
